Make a Bag Today - Focus on Totes
with Juju Vail

Sunday 19th October, 2008
£45 plus £5 materials

There are so many beautiful new and vintage fabrics available for sewing. If you haven’t visited an online fabric shop lately you might be surprised.

Why not dust off your sewing machine and learn how to use it? There are many sewing projects that are easily achievable in a day such as dresses, skirts and bags.

This workshop is intended for anyone who would like assistance with a sewing project. The workshop will be centred on making a bag, which can be finished by the end of the day. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask and learn about other sewing queries.

A range of truly unique and exciting bag patterns will be provided and individual instructions will be given for how to sew them up. There will be demonstrations for how to set in a zipper as well as other closures and how to line and strengthen the bag.

A wealth of inspirational material will also be provided including embellishment ideas and patterns.

Participants will need to supply their own fabrics and materials. Either purchase a metre of fabric or bring along old clothing and materials to recycle. A list of resources will be provided upon registration.

Ideally participants will bring along their own sewing machines, but a couple will be available for sharing.

An experienced London based textile designer and artist, Juju Vail also writes and teaches about craft skills and creativity. Hamlyn publishes her most recent book, Creative Beading. She chronicles her creative passions on her popular blog, www.jujulovespolkadots.typepad.com
