Aspects of Writing
A four-week course with Tim Lott

A short introduction to Fiction, Non Fiction, Screenwriting and Journalism.

4 x two hours sessions
Tuesdays   7 - 9.15pm   £125

April 28th, May 5th, 12th, & 19th 2009

Tim Lott has written five novels and one memoir.
He won the Whitbread First Novel Award for
'White City Blue' and the PEN Award for Autobiography for
'The Scent of Dried Roses'.

Tim has written a number of screenplays, written
and presented a BBC 4 documentary, and his journalism
has appeared in most of the main national newspapers.

Aspects of Writing will be taught in Four Parts:

The Basics of Fiction
Plot, character, structure etc.

Journalism and Non-fiction
How to write features.
How get a piece in a national newspaper or magazine.
How to write book length memoir.

Screenwriting, TV and Film
How to ‘pitch'.
Writing dialogue and how to construct a screenplay.

Inside the Business
How to Sell Your Book.
How the Publishing Industry Operates.
What is an agent and how do you get one?
Know your market.  Be realistic.

Guest Speaker: Lucy Luck.
Lucy has her own literary agency and has worked with, among others,
Donna Tartt, Julie Myerson and Anne Enright.

The course will centre mainly on talks and discussion,
together with a limited number of writing exercises.
